I had certainly not planned this 3 day trip to Canada in late fall without a certain pressure from the outside, and on rather short notice at that. Still, I had to go, and have no regrets.
All pictures were taken with a Casio QV8000SX Digital camera that I was using for the first time on this trip. To get them in the resolution they were taken, klick on the thumbnail. No postediting was done, this is the real thing. If you want to use any of the pictures on my pages, please send a brief note to monika@unixgods.org and let me know.

UsAirways 2pm Flight to Philladelphia (and on to Montreal) |
By the time I arrive at the Hotel (8pm), it is already dark. |
So I took in my surroundings, but deffered a better picture. |
Does not look much better from this side either. |
|
Well, this is what happens if your pre-travel research is sloppy. |
Interesting artwork in the hallways though. |
And the room was large, warm and clean, with a nice wooden floor. |
The first evening, I ventured through Chinatown in the dark, playing tourist. |
|
But you see so much more at daylight. |
All chinatowns seem to have gates all around. |
...to keep out demons I've been told. |
The gates don't seem to work on foreign devils. |
|
but if you look carefully |
..there are chinese in Chinatown too.. |
the Y2K bug -- err, dragon |
nice chests, but too big to transport. |
|
Shop window of a Chinese drugstore. |
Unidentified Objects for sale. |
Leaving Chinatown (with Chinatown Holiday Inn on the far left) |
Stalking the Consulate -- from St.Alexander |
|
It's an impressive building (services are in basement and 19th floor) |
If you dare to enter here.. |
A quick look on the other side. |
Well, the main part of my mission was in that Consulate building, but I'm afraid this place is way to public to give any details -- let alone pictures. All I can say here is that I was very pleased with the events -- once initial errors had been taken care of. |
|
Hunting for Breakfast. |
The Cafe Depot (outside). |
(inside) have I mentioned that Montreal is a little expensive? |
Street Musicians at the Habor (Gittar and Violin), very nice. |
|
Me, listening. |
Still Me. |
Assorted Harbor pictures. |
|
|
|
|
by night |
NOT drunk: camera is sitting on not-so-flat surface. |
|
This camera is really good at dark pictures. |
as long as nothing moves. |
Kind of special architecture too. |
Excellent Crepe-Restaurant in the old city. (Not only for deserts) |
|
Same place (now on the left) by daytime. Consider Crepes with hot aples inside, maple sirup and ice-cream. |
I had good lamb-chops here, but another gentleman there was not so pleased with his food. |
I had tough, salty, and overcooked steak here, but the gentleman that did not like the previous one liked it here. |
Some of downtown is considerably above ground. |
|
But since winters are harsh, there is lots of underground space too. |
Never one for shopping, I went sightseeing. |
Arghh, too big, too big. |
More Horses. |
|
And one last one with Horses. |
A quick break (real good food quite cheap and friendly) |
And then for something completely different. |

|
One more for the road. |
And finally some postcards I've sent. |
To show of some of the nice places |
I did not find the time to take pictures off. |
|
But I really could not go without a glance at Mnt Royal. |
Less than 15 minutes on foot from downtown Montreal. |
A green oasis. |
|
|
|
|
|
Thank you for watching. |
