Mapping of RedHat Versions and CodeNames to LINUX Kernel Versions

This info is a little bit hard to find, so I hope it's useful for somebody out there..

The following information is provided as is, and is to the best of my knowledge, and of course it's provided with no implicit of explicit warranty!

The author is not affiliated with RedHat, so you might want to double-check with them..

1: RedHat 7.2 shipped 2.4.7-10smp on the CD's, as the kernel for symetric multi-processing, but later upgraded the SMP-kernel to 2.4.9-21smp

2: RedHat 7.3 had a couple of bugs and kernel updates. I never really used RH 7.3 because it was not so stable, so I don't know the kernel version numbers of the updates.

Please send me email in case you find a mistake.. or know of missing kernel version numbers. linux @ unixgods.org

Another good source of information is RedHat's "Support & Docs" page. If you go to Errata, you can see a list of package updates for each RedHat version - in some cases there was a kernel update.

Thanks

Thanks to Craig Davison for letting me know the kernel version of RH 7.0
Thanks to Mohan from Lucid for letting me know abou the RH 7.3 kernel updates.

Note

Recently I found another web-site which also contains helpful info on RedHat release dates and pointers to the original press release and the release-notes!
